A very good route. rode it yesterday on my tiger 800. didn´t see any police about anywhere so naturally opened the throttle a bit. great overtaking places and very good vision. The route is almost identical to sections of the isle of mann tt. this route needs to be memorised a few times before going for a blast though as there are some unforgiving bends with a sheer drop next to them.
Agree with everything said about this road including the grumpy old sod at the garage near Trawstynydd.A very fast road with lots of alleged 100mph sweepers, but beware of Police at weekends. 2.5miles from Bala take the B4501 (Almost Opposite a friendly little Cafe)this takes you on a great stretch through the forest up to the A5.Take a left onto the A5 for about a mile then right through the village of Cerrigydrudion. Continue on the B4501 over the moorland. When you reach the main road(A543) turn left and it takes you on a loop over the moors back to the A5.This loop very much reminds me of the Mountain road on the I.O.M.
garage in bala was most entertaining, had to go and drag chap from under a car as his mrs was giving the kids their dinner!!!! fantastic road one of the best i have ridden, completely changes once reachedf the lake, never saw one fuzz but rode it today bank holiday which was a mistake, still excellent, plenty of places to overtake
i live close to this route and love it !! ok the summer is a nightmare for plod in their helicopters , but being local helps to know when they are about ! and they are never there in the ewt , which to me is just as fun to ride !1
Watch out for the police its a known popular route, nice flow to the road but the B4391 is much, much better.
I love this road for its long sweeping bends and fantastic scenery. Im lucky to live nearby and get to ride it pretty often. IMHO its a nicer run going from Bala to Trawsfynydd rather than the other way. Its quite likely to be policed as mentioned in a previous review especially since there was a fatality on it recently.
Id agree with comments here, very good route, with some good visability approaching bends. I got petrol in bala, which was not very cheap in general and was quite busy with bikers in late July 07. Petrol station was old fashioned type with no real forecourt to speak of, just pumps on the edge of the road. Man inside was friendly.
Travelled on this road with a mate on 600 Bandit. Its a 90 mph road even around the hairpin at the end of the lake. Loved every minute of it. Grumpy old man at garage wouldnt take a debit or credit card. Had to copper up with mate to pay for petrol.
Exceptional piece of road if you like big sweepers. Best ridden during the week outside of school holidays when the road will be largely free from holiday traffic. Police presence can be high. Frankly its best to ride it one way and see if they are there, and if theyre not, turn round and have a blast. Watch out for the grumpy man in the petrol station at the Trawsfynydd junction. hes not keen on bikers!
What a route!! I love this one, very fast with some very nice corners, including the mother of all hair pins!! It's very easy to get caught out with though, the first set of bends over the hill just out of Bala and the double bend of the head of Bro Prysor by the little lake. Don't let that put you off it, it's a very satisfying route. Highly recommended! One of my personal favourites anywhere. The freindly policemen hide in one of the farm access gates Approx 6-8KM from Trawsfynydd and on the hill as you go out of Frongoch.
