awesome bit of road. hard pressed to find anything else like it in the country. add it to your to do list and get it done asap
ozbikerWhat can one say, an unbelievable road. Just be careful coming into Walcha, have nearly been caught several times by police mobile radar approx 5-20 km out.
dagsadooTheres not much to beat this in Australia. 200km of motorcycling bliss. Tight hairpins through the forest section in the middle and long sweeping curves on the flats at either end. Road in good condition for the majority of the route, which is pretty unusual for this part of the world.
Stay at the Royal Cafe in Welcha, Toni & Brad are bikers and theres a lock-up for your bike in the evening.
Heading west, the fun starts just after Long Flat, when you begin the climb to the New England Tablelands. Pretty much finished at Gingers Creek, if you, like me, revel in tight corners.
... Unless, of course, you need to get back to Long Flat. I suspect youll find some excuse to turn around ;-)
Been on it about half a dozen times, & always found the road to be totally predictable - if you keep your concentration at its peak! Take care on the white lines, they get slippery at the lean angles youll be using.
Ive never seen a cop on it. Which doesn mean they don know about it, but who cares? You are not going to be speeding by much, as its very tight, and few places to set up a radar.
This road is the Aussie version of US129.
Begin in Wauhope in the morning because of the sun, through thick forest with Eucalypus trees all around, fantastic!
