I took this ride because the northern NJ area was still flooded with snow run off. South Jersey roads were good. If you like straight flat roads this is for you. Hardly any traffic. The Bait Box was not open, only seasonal...not sure if I would go there anyway. The start of the trip and end in Sweetsbro, have lunch at The Red Hen...excellent food and a mircro brew. There is also a bakery across the street that is to die for. http://www.theredhen.biz/
I did this route last weekend. Overall it was a good ride, we enjoyed it and we even took the authors advice and had lunch at the Bait Box at the marina. Food was pretty good. For whatever reason I could not get the map on this site for this ride to transfer to my GPS. Technical issues I guess, so I had to zoom in on the map and copy down directions. This ride is interesting but my wife was constantly reading from the directions. The only bad part of this published ride is that as you zoom in and you see that it takes you on an un-named road that supposedly turns into Frog Ocean Road. Well I am here to tell you that there is no such road and we wasted a good 45 minutes looking for it. I dont know if the author had trouble mapping the ride or not but make sure you beware, there is no such road and Frog Ocean Road is over by the marina. What I ended up having to do is search for local attractions and put in the marina. We ended up turning around and eventually make it to the marina and subsequently finished the ride. The ride is mostly through farm land of South Jersey and the latter part after the marina had some nice wooded streets with quite a few old houses from the 1700’s and 1800’s.
This is my Saturday, nothing to do, South Jersey loop. You go through some great old towns and you can grab lunch at Hancock Harbor (The Bait Box). Roads are all very rural with very few cars if any, mostly. Some of the roads have been paved recently and a couple go past sod farms where you can go wide open!!! If you are down in the area check it out, you will like it.
