This is the most spectacular road in Romania, reaching the highest altitude 2.145m, very winding, with incredible scenery. The best months to make this trip is in June/July/August and you should check the forecast before going there.

I attempted this road today, 16/10/2016 from the Sugag end. It started really well and was very enjoyable. But just after Obarsia Lotrului, at the junction with the 7a, the road was closed due to snow. So I took the 7a to Petrosani. The 7a is unpaved and though fine for my GS it wouldn´t have been pleasant on a sports bike. Petrosani is a bit of a shit hole and was very dull to pass through, but the road south to Targu Jiu is a fab Road will great sweeping curves and a good surface.

I really enjoyed this trip (in September 2015). As already mentioned by stego the streets are mostly new and very good. You can ride them with a speed. But be prepared for some surprises: a few parts still have gravel and I even saw a young bear on the street and missed him only by a few meters.
I´ll do this trip again!

It´s wild version of Transfagerasan. Surface is mostly new one, but there are few sections(up to few 100m long) that are from gravel. I would miss it in the future, because with this offroad section this road is giving you everything you can imagine.
I visited it during sunny day, but I catch sudden storm on the top. So be prepared

These routes are the most spectacular in Romania, arguably in the world. It is not only my opinion,(I've been in France,Greece,Italy, etc), but you can trust Jeremy from Top Gear(he has seen places:)). Just type on youtube "Top Gear Transfagarasan".
The reason I selected average or normal in the ratings is that you have parts that are either straight section or "Practically no straights to speak of". It is a combined road that just gives you everything.
From Sebes city you go towards Sibiu (European Capital Cultural City in 2007 - medieval place).
From Sibiu you go on road 7C (not E 81 or 7)to Pitesti City as pointed out on the map- that's FAGARASEAN ROAD -spectacular.
From Pitesti to Horezu is average road good - road 67.
Then go on Road 67C another impressive road - TRANSALPINA ROAD. check on youtube.
If you want more details, feel free to contact me

Have a dry road !!

I was there last week! The route is incredible with fantastic asphalt when you ride from Novaci to the north! The part after the peack is also fantastic!
Compared to Transfagarasan i prefer definetelly Transalpina and recomend it to anyone who rides in the region!

I must say that having done this yesterday I am quite impressed at the first reviewer having done this route on his RT! Although this route is currently being extensively reconstructed, there are currently sections of holes, sand, gravel and some small rocks. The southern section particularly I do not believe is ideally suited to a road based machine. I did enjoy riding this road a lot, the scenery, nature and tranquility is beautiful and if you have a well sprung bike you can have some fun on it too. Very nice to visit.

DN67C is No. 2 Romanian biking road in terms of both scenery and turns (Transfagarasan (DN7C) is still number one). Spectacular high alpine view ("trans" = crossing the). Newly asphalted road, about 5 km. are still waiting to be asphalted in summer of 2011, but no problem even now, as the road is already prepared. Check for availability, it should be opened from June 1. You may find accommodation in Ranca (relatively new ski resort). There is an alternative, from Sugag - Dobra - Jina - Saliste - Sibiu, which is more atractive from scenery point of view and it will be more attractive also for corners, once the road is finished (curently prepared to be asphalted). Near Novaci you may want to visit "Polovragi" cave - in the village with the same name or "Muierii" (that is Women's) cave.
